In my opinion I do not think America is ready. I think the safety of someone coming out in today time is much more secure than it was in the past. But seeing their sexual relations on a televised station and have society be comfortable with it is not. More TV shows are now including homosexual sex scenes, the few to be named are Black Sails, Empire, House of cards, Game of Thrones and True Blood. Even though most of the shows i named are on premium channels (HBO, Starz, Showtime); the TV show Empire is not. Empire is about family built recording company. The show has a few gay appearances, but the character with a main role is Jamal Lyon, the company owner Luscious Lyons son. In the beginning of the first season Jamal had a few kissing scenes with his boyfriend but recently in the second to last episode of the season there was just a raw sex scene. The scene showed him and his new boyfriend in midst of having sex on his fathers office desk. After the episode I heard a lot of complaints from friends and family about the scene. One person said "the show needs to know its limits". In that case couldn't we say the same thing for when the show has many other straight sex scenes? Maybe the show should just get rid of all the sex scenes in general. But society wants that, society wants a beautiful woman and a handsome male making love. Another reason why people want it is because most can relate and they are just used to seeing it on television. There aren't as much of homosexuals than there are as straight in America. So it's hard for the majority to relate. However I think that it's good that television networks are showing gay sex because once America gets used to it then it'll be just 'another show'.
